What the scheme provides

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a Government of India programme for rooftop solar in the residential sector. The official scheme framework provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for eligible residential rooftop solar systems, with applications routed through the National Portal and the relevant DISCOM process.

Who can use the scheme?

Official government material describes the scheme as demand-driven for residential consumers with a grid-connected electricity connection of the local DISCOM. The programme includes rural households as well as urban residential consumers, subject to the applicable requirements.

How the application works

  1. Register and apply through the PM Surya Ghar National Portal.
  2. Use the portal/DISCOM process for vendor selection and technical requirements.
  3. Complete the rooftop solar installation through the selected vendor.
  4. Complete inspection, commissioning and the applicable net-metering process.
  5. Submit the required redemption/claim information and receive CFA according to the applicable process.

Financing and EMI

A July 2026 PIB release states that collateral-free loans from nationalised banks can be available at a concessional rate described as repo rate plus 50 basis points—5.75% per annum at the time of that release—with a 10-year tenure. This is not a guaranteed rate or approval for every applicant; lender eligibility and current product terms apply.

Net metering and surplus generation

For eligible grid-connected rooftop systems, applicable net-metering arrangements can allow surplus generation to be exported to the grid. The exact process and technical requirements depend on the applicable DISCOM and connection category.

What Dandapat Enterprise can handle

Dandapat Enterprise can support site assessment, system design, equipment planning, installation, testing and commissioning, and applicable documentation/DISCOM coordination for residential rooftop solar projects.

FAQ

PM Surya Ghar questions.

Does ₹78,000 apply to every solar system?+

The published CFA structure caps the residential central assistance at ₹78,000 for 3 kW; additional capacity beyond 3 kW does not receive additional CFA under the standard structure. Actual eligibility and calculation follow the applicable scheme rules.

Does the scheme cover commercial solar plants?+

PM Surya Ghar is primarily a residential rooftop solar programme for CFA. Government material states that commercial and institutional rooftop solar can be part of the broader programme context, but central financial assistance is not provided to those categories under the residential CFA component.

Can Dandapat guarantee subsidy approval?+

No. Subsidy/CFA eligibility and release are determined under the applicable government, portal and DISCOM process. Dandapat can assist with the project and documentation workflow.
